Gather your coven before the next chapter

It’s the season of the witch. Gather your coven, light the candles and get ready for Practical Magic 2. With the return of the Owens sisters, there’s no better excuse to get your favorite girls together. Whether you’re planning a night in before heading to the theater or just want an excuse to revisit the original, we’ve rounded up everything you need for the perfect Practical Magic rewatch party. From Midnight Margaritas and fall snacks to candles, outfits and a little witchy fun, here’s how to make a night of it.

  1. Set the mood - Get cozy

First things first: turn off the big light.

Nothing kills the magic faster than a ceiling light beaming down on everyone. Instead, fill the room with candlelight, lamps and anything else that gives off a warm glow.

Scatter candles around the coffee table, on a bookshelf or wherever your coven ends up hanging out. Add a few flowers, a stack of old books and some pretty glassware and suddenly your living room feels a lot more like the Owens house.

And yes, candles are doing most of the heavy lifting here.

Martini Candle Company’s Funky Pumpkin Modern Pillar Accent Candles are perfect for bringing in a little fall without making your living room look like the Halloween aisle at Target.

Put a few on your coffee table or dining table and let them become part of the décor.

  1. Gather your coven

A Practical Magic watch party is really just an excuse to get your favorite people in one room.

Invite your best friends, your sisters, your roommates or the girls you haven't seen in forever.

Tell everyone to come over early, grab a drink and get comfortable. You can even make it a little more fun by asking everyone to come dressed as their own version of an Owens sister.

Before the movie starts, put on a little music, pour the first round of margaritas and let everyone settle in. The best part of a girls' night is usually everything that happens before you actually press play.

And once everyone is on the couch with a drink in hand?

That's when the magic starts.

  1. Midnight Margaritas

This one is pretty obvious.

You can't have a Practical Magic rewatch party without Midnight Margaritas.

Make a big pitcher before everyone arrives so no one has to spend the movie squeezing limes. Set out cute glasses, lime wedges and salt, then let everyone make their own.

And, of course, light a Midnight Margaritas candle while you're at it.

Our Practical Magic-inspired candle comes in Midnight Enchanted Garden and Smoked Oud, making it the perfect addition to your drink station.

Midnight Margarita essentials

  • 1 1/2 oz blanco tequila

  • 1 1/2 oz cream of coconut

  • Salt or sugar for rim

  • Lime wedges

  • 1 cup ice

  • Cute glasses

  1. Put out some food

You don't need to make a whole dinner. You're watching a movie, not hosting Thanksgiving.

And honestly, don't worry about having the perfect dishes or decor. This is the perfect excuse to pull out all the random pretty stuff you have lying around.

Use the weird little bowl you found at a thrift store, mix different plates and glasses, grab a funky serving dish or put flowers in an old vase. The more unexpected, the better.

Put together a snack spread that people can grab from throughout the night. Trader Joes and Aldi are great places for finger food finds. A cheese board, fruit, chocolate and popcorn are an easy place to start. If you want something more filling, add some bread, dips or whatever your group actually likes to eat.

Easy bites:

  • Brie or goat cheese

  • Crackers and bread

  • Apples and grapes

  • Blackberries

  • Dark chocolate

  • Popcorn

  • Chocolate-covered strawberries

  1. Dress for the movie

No need for a pointy hat, unless that's your style.

Think flowy dresses, lace, velvet, boots, dark florals and lots of jewelry. You want to look a little witchy without looking like you bought a Halloween costume.

Make it part of the night and have everyone come dressed as their own version of a witch. Go full Gillian, channel Sally or just wear the outfit you've been waiting for an excuse to wear.

Raid your own closet. Throw on a black dress, add some boots and too much jewelry, or pair a long skirt with a tank and cardigan. The goal is witchy, not Halloween costume.

Check out Free People, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters or Depop for pieces if you need them, but honestly, the thrift store or your own closet might be even better!

  1. Get everyone on the couch

At some point, the snacks are out, the drinks are poured and everyone's finally settled in.

Put on Practical Magic, turn the lights down and enjoy the movie with your favorite people. Take a few pictures before you start if you want to remember the night, but don't spend the whole movie on your phone.

Because honestly, that's the whole point of the night. Getting everyone together, watching a movie you love and having a reason to stay up a little too late.

And when it's over, you're officially ready for the next chapter.

Practical Magic 2, here we come.
